How to Include Close Elderly Relatives When Planning a Destination Wedding

One of the challenges that often arises when planning a destination wedding is in accommodating to the needs of family members and friends, specifically the elderly. It's important to be sensitive to elderly family members when making plans for your wedding. While they may be willing and able to travel for a destination ceremony, there are certain travel needs that must be factored in for older travelers.

Here are a few helpful hints for including elderly relatives in your wedding planning:
  • Be sensitive to the person’s feelings and make sure you find a way to make them feel included even if they can't travel. Keep him/her informed during the planning process and make sure the person is invited to all activities at home before everyone leaves.
  • Mention the person during the reception when thanking everyone for coming by stating that you wished the person was here also.
  • A special album of pictures can be personalized for the person.
  • If a video is available, when returning home, make arrangements to watch the video with the person

J. Crew Wedding Collection

I fell in love with J. Crew's wedding collection, especially for a Mexican beach wedding. The pieces combine contemporary style with a vintage feel to make for a perfect laid-back beach ensemble.

The collection features options for the bride, groom, bridesmaids and even flower girls, and all at an affordable price.

This Marquis gown, with it's delicate layers of French and Spanish lace, would look beautiful in a sunset beach wedding!

Destination Wedding Spotlight: Erica and Abe

I love the photos from this destination wedding in the town of San Miguel De Allende, at a historic colonial villa called Casa Chorro. The pictures incorporate local scenery and culture, making for a charming portrayal of their wedding day. View more pictures of Erica & Abe's Mexican wedding.

Beach Wedding Dresses

Are you planning for your destination wedding, and wondering what makes a great beach wedding dress? Use the same criteria you would when picking out your dress for a more traditional ceremony--go with fit and something that makes you feel beautiful. Your wedding is going to be one of the most memorable days of your life, go with something that you're comfortable in that won't require a lot of maintenance.

Since you're getting married on the beach, you'll probably want to consider a more casual variant of what you would normally pick out. Beach weddings can be hot; lightweight and airy fabrics are not only more comfortable, but will also look beautiful flowing in the breeze!

Make sure to pick something you can move in, as guests at destination weddings are generally very eager to kick of their shoes and hit the dance floor. Check out this site to draw inspiration for your perfect beach wedding dress!
