Real Wedding Spotlight: Elise and Ned

Elise and Ned chose 30 friends and the gorgeous Riviera Maya in Mexico for their destination wedding. They went barefoot on the white sands, and chose a tasteful elegant emerald green and chocolate canopy. With large sparklers and a mariachi band celebrating their pronouncement as man and wife, the party moved to a beautiful beach side terrace where guests danced to the sounds of a live Salsa band and enjoyed the alluring talents of fire dancers.

Destination weddings: More couples choose beach over banquet hall

“I thought it was so wonderful and different and so much fun, my mom and (my husband's) mom both said it was the best wedding they’d ever been to,” says Melissa Brousil, who married Michael Brousil just before sunset along Mexico's Riviera Maya Coastline.

The couple had never been to Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula before, so they were excited to experience the clear blue waters of the Caribbean for the first time over their wedding.

Market trends show that Melissa and Michael are just a few of the people catching onto this trend, and that a notable spike in destination wedding interest has occurred recently.

Mexico leads the pack in terms of popular sites, but other local couples have opted for Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Florida and even Hawaii, said Carol Lekki, owner of Carol's Travel Service in Orland Park," who assisted the Brousils with their event.said. “More people just don’t want to go through the stress and expense of a big wedding at home,” she added.
